The Upper Danube Valley

The Upper Danube Valley - also known as the Swabian Grand Canyon - is the breakthrough valley of the Young Danube in the southwest of the Swabian Alb.

The Danube, this 2857-kilometer-long international river, meanders as a still pristine watercourse through the Upper Danube Valley, where it shows its talent as a brilliant master builder. It has carved magnificent landscapes into the Jura rock: deep gorges with rugged rock faces, white cliffs and a spectacular breakthrough. Nature reserves accompany its course, as do important buildings, including the Archabbey of Beuron and Sigmaringen Castle.
