Caves of the Swabian Alb
Most of them aren't visible from above or outside, however what lies underneath the earth is all the more impressive. Bright dripstones some of them reach up to the ceiling of the large halls or cross holes that produce different temperatures just one metre next to the other ... the caves of the Swabian Alb have some special features in store for you.
A few of them are something very special themselves, for example the deepest vertical cave, the longest walkable cave or the only one where you can enter with a boot. Then there are the ones that bear the UNESCO World Heritage Label.

Already 20,000 years ago the Bear cave in Sonnenbühl-Erpfingen was inhabited, whereof bone findings of rhinos, cave lions and bears evidence.
The Bear cave in Sonnenbühl-Erpfingen and the Fog cave in Sonnenbühl-Genkingen lead to the world of stalagmites and stalactites, and of cave bears. In the function of a Geopark info centre they show visitors the fascinating realm of depth of the Swabian Alb.

In the Fog cave, located not far from the castle Lichtenstein, you find one of the most beautiful stalactites and stalagmites on the Swabian Alb. Together with the Bear cave it functions as a Geopark Info centre.

The Wimsen Cave (Geopoint of the UNESCO Global Geopark Swabian Alb) is the only show cave in Germany accessible by boat and also the deepest explored underwater cave in Germany.
