Pretzel

There's a 100 percent chance of finding pretzels (German spelling "Brezel") in bakeries in the Swabian Alb. Also, it might or might not have been invented in our region.

The word pretzel comes from Latin "bracchium", which means "arm". It comes in the shape of a symmetrically intertwined strand of dough with a thick belly and two thin arms might have been invented in our region.

Raw dough is formed and then dipped into baking soda based lye which creates the typical brown colour.

Legend says that the pretzel was invented in the Alb city of Bad Urach when a local baker was set an ultimatum: Either he would create a pastry where the sun would shine through three times or the local count would behead him. His wife some time watched him with crossed arms and this gesture brought up the idea of the pretzel's form.
